Weekend Forum Weert (The Netherlands) style!

Hi all,

Time for some ‘culture’ for me this weekend.

Over at my place (Weert, The Netherlands) this weekend is all about the huge fair (AKA Carnival so I recon) we have in town.

We have about 140 attractions ranging from shooting galleries to serious roller coasters, and from fresh fruit bars to gambling alleys.

The funny thing is, Google happens to have taken the pictures for Google Earth, when last year’s fair was on. Here are a couple of them:

Kids roller coaster and shooting galleries

Another coaster and a merry-go-round

And a ferris wheel!

And if you’re Dutch, here is the Fairs’ site and here are some pictures of last year

So what are your plans for this weekend?

Transposing the Formulas in a Table of Cells

OK, time for some non Excel 2007 stuff…

Recently someone asked me if it was possible to transpose a table of cells, but in such a way that the formula of each cell is kept intact. I decided VBA was the way to go and produced a small but very useful little routine for that.

Name Manager 4: Last call before release

Hi all,

In this post I announced some updates to version 4 of the Name Manager.

Since I haven’t had any bug reports for about four weeks, I have decided it is about time to release this version.

Before I do so, I give you guys (and girls of course!) a last chance to report any issues to me.

So have a go at it, break it! If I get no new issues back, I’ll post the release in about one week.

Bug in Application.InputBox function

This article describes a bug recently discovered by Ron de Bruin and which has also
been reported here.

The Application.InputBox function is very useful to get a range from
the user. Unfortunately, this function exposes a bug in Excel (all current
versions!). If the sheet on which a (range of) cell(s) is selected contains
conditional formatting using the : “Formula Is” option, the function may fail,
returning an empty range.

The only reliable workaround is to build a userform to request the range from
the user, which I have included as a download here.

Name Manager 4 Beta updates

Hi all,

An update to version 4 of the Name manager is out.

I have worked hard to weed out the bugs reported to me so far. Things are definitely looking better and better.

Also I have added a feature so you can see where a name is in use. Press the “Is name used” button to get this dialog:

New feature: where is a name used?

Have fun trying the new features!

Announcing: Name Manager 4.0 Beta

Hi everyone!

Finally I got round to doing what has been requested a lot of times for the Name Manager: being able to rename a name.

Name Manager now includes a rename option, which will enable you to change the name of a name and have all objects that use that name update too. (Well, that is, that is the intention)!

It looks like this:

This new feature has yet to be tested thoroughly though, so that is why this version is still in Beta stage.
Test drive version 4 and report any problems to me.

The feature is thoroughly tested and works as expected. Download Name Manager here.

Hint: to rename a name, double click on the name in the list and change it in the subsequent inputbox.
