When a friend of mine started SCUBA diving, I thought that there must be a better way than hauling those tanks around, regulating the compressed air, and getting the benz. Well, I was right. However, Jacques Cousteau had the idea about 40 years earlier.

It’s a good idea, but as far as I can tell nobody has accomplished it yet. Texas A&M has a nice page on how fish gills work.
