A culture that values collectivism puts more value in group identity in which individuals do not stand out, but the group works toward a common goal. Individualism, however, promotes competition amongst individuals to spur advancement.
The primary difference is that collective cultures value the achievements of groups, while cultures that emphasize individualism value the achievements of individuals.
