A contractile vacuole is a sub-cellular organelle involved in osmoregulation. It is found in protists and in unicellular algae.

Plasmolysis is the process where cells lose water in a hypertonic solution. 

Crenation from modern Latin meaning scalloped or notched from popular Latin crena meaning notch
