Supplementary angles are angles that when added, = 180
So if x + 2 and 2x + 40 are added, they = 180
x + 2 + 2x + 4 = 180
3x + 6 = 180
Now to isolate x:
subtract 6 from both sides
3x + 6 - 6 = 180 - 6
3x = 174
Divide both sides by 3 to get the value of x
3/3x = 174/3
x = 58
Now plugin x into each equation x + 2 and 2x + 4
x + 2
58 + 2 = 60
2x + 4
2(58) + 4 = 116 + 4 = 120
x + 2 = 60
2x + 4 = 120
